“The Ref” is one of my favorite movies and also one my favorite Christmas movies. “The Ref” is not your typical Christmas movie, but it is very funny and refreshing.

The movie is about a cat burglar named Gus (Leary) whose latest job goes wrong on Christmas Eve. Gus needs a place to hide, so he decides to kidnap a married couple named Lloyd (Spacey) and Caroline (Davis) Chasseur. Unfortunately for Gus, Lloyd and Caroline cannot agree on anything and are always bickering. Things become more complicated when Lloyd and Caroline’s teenage son Jesse comes home from military school and Lloyd’s crazy family show up for Christmas dinner.

I thought that the acting in this movie was very good and believable. Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis were very funny and kept my interest through the whole movie. I also thought that Denis Leary was very entertaining and funny in one of his first starring roles.
